Interested in being nominated for the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine?   Students should be current 9-12TH GRADERS who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership potential and a special interest in a career of medicine.     

The average forum cost is $2,560.  Financial aid is available.    If interested contact Mrs. Rose as soon as possible.  No later than Feb. 9, 2011.

Warmth for Winter

Student Council is collecting donations of blankets, jackets, or any
other unwanted/gently used winter apparel. The items will be
distributed to people in the community who need them.
We will be collecting at girls basketball games this Friday, the 28th,
and next Monday, the 31st.

MODOT's 2011 Annual Youth Transportation's Conference
July 17-22, 2011

"NO FEE REQUIRED. ROOM,  BOARD AND TRAVEL TO FIELD TRIPS ARE FULLY FUNDED FOR EACH SELECTED PARTICIPANT.   THE ONLY EXPENSE TO PARTICIPANTS IS TRAVEL TO AND FROM JEFFERSON CITY AND INCIDENTAL THROUGHOUT THE WEEK.  THE CONFERENCE IS FUNDED BY THE MISSOURI DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION AND SPONSORS."

For students that will be in the 9th, 10th 11th, or 12th grade for the 2011-2012 school year.

Join MODOT for 6 days of excitement packed transportation activities including bridge design, building and testing, surveying and various competitions.  Students from across the state will also conduct experiments at the University of Missouri College of Civil Engineering.

Standards for Selection: 3.0 minimum in your subject, motivation,
attitude, dependability, responsibility, and leadership qualities.

students nominated can be recognized in the USAA National Awards
Yearbook, and they become eligible to apply for one of the
Foundation's 400 educational cash grants, plus the $10,000 Dr. George
A. Stevens Founder's Award.

The United States Achievement Academy Scholarship Foundation deadline
date for student nominations is February 3rd.

This award will recognize one outstanding volunteer from Missouri who has exhibited a long-term commitment to volunteerism. This volunteer's impact should be broad-based and comprehensive including both hands-on experiences and leadership roles. The Nominee cannot be in a paid position for the volunteer and leadership services provided. "

girls basketball




the girls basketball team will be playing two very quality opponents again this weekend.  tomorrow (saturday) we will host the defending class 3 state champion in mt. vernon.  jv start is 3pm, varsity to follow.  we would love to have your support for this home game!!!!  the girls have been working extremely hard this year and would love (and deserve) your support.   sunday we will be traveling to st. louis to play memphis overton (a nationally ranked opponent).  the showcase in which we will be playing has a variety of great games with nationally ranked teams.  below is a list of the games as well as directions to the gym. unfortunately the games will not be broadcasted.

Dress Up Days:
These days are all relatively easy and should not require anything
that a student doesn't already have in their closet. Please encourage
your students to participate and have fun showing their school
spirit. Also, school dress code must be followed each day which means
hats and shorts are not allowed.

Monday: No school for the students
Tuesday: Comfy day--wear sweats
Wednesday: Wacky Wednesday--wear crazy combinations
Thursday: Class color day--freshman-yellow, sophomores-white, juniors-
light blue, seniors-red (It is their locker color.)

The following girls have been selected as members of the 2011 Winter

Homecoming Dance:
The homecoming dance will be held next Friday night, January 21 in
the girls gym from 9:30 p.m. until 11:30 p.m., following the varsity
boys basketball game We have hired professional DJ: Shawn Giddens.
The theme is "Glow Out, Blow Out" which means you can wear fun neon/
glow in the dark clothes--as long as they are school appropriate. You
will receive a glow in the dark name tag when you purchase your
ticket, which is your ticket into the dance. The tickets are $3.
Tickets will be for sale before school next week and at the door of
the dance. All out of school dates must be signed up by Wednesday of
next week. You will be notified if they are approved so you can
purchase their ticket. Don't forget that one cardinal coupon is good
for $1 off the ticket price, but you can only redeem one coupon per
ticket. In addition, glow sticks and bracelets will be for sale at
the concession stand.

College Bound Students


Attention:  Any student who is college bound, is PLANNING TO EARN AN HONOR DIPLOMA and who is interested in  engineering.

Mrs. Rose will be hosting a field trip to the Missouri University of Science & Technology(Rolla) on Wednesday, FEB. 2ND.  The school bus will leave the school at 6:00 a.m. and will return around 8:30 p.m.  Students will tour the campus, listen to a student panel,  learn about the many fields of engineering and the honors program, will learn about financial aid and admissions requirements and will meet with former Webb City students.

Seats are limited so sign up as soon as possible.  A sign up list is posted outside of Mrs. Rose's office. Last day for sign up is JAN 21ST.
